About Me
Hello! My name is Mahima Akshinthala. I am currently a first-year student at Western University studying music as a piano major. I have been playing the piano for 14 years and I have completed my Grade 10 RCM piano.
Throughout high school , I have been fortunate to have had some great performance and part-time job opportunities in the music field. I spent three years working at nursing homes and group homes for individuals with disabilities doing music programs and concerts for them. I was also hired by some BIAs in the Hamilton area to perform at various street festivals and events.
I like all kinds of music and love to experiment with various genres and make them my own. Some of my favourite styles are contemporary worship music, jazz, popular and classical styles. My love for jazz led me to being the female singer of Hamilton All Star Jazz Band. I have been part of the worship band at my local church as a keyboard player, a guitarist and a worship leader. As a songwriter, I have written various songs, two of which are on iTunes and others in process of being professionally recorded.
I was a part of my high school's concert band, jazz band, vocal ensemble and drum line. Being a part of those musical groups really revealed to me the impact that teaching music can have in a student's life and started up an interest in me to teach music.
I was given some leadership roles to conduct the vocal ensemble and the bands I was in in high school and I also gave children piano lessons for a year, so I've had a bit of music teaching experience. I am very excited to learn more about teaching music in this class and hopefully one day, I will be able to put those skills to practice.
